12 Best Apps for Prescription Refills and Home Delivery in the USA (2027)
A verified comparison of 12 prescription refill and home delivery services in the USA, covering delivery speed, membership fees, app store ratings, pharmacy accreditation, controlled substance limits, and which once-popular services have shut down.
The best apps for prescription refills and home delivery in the USA, compared on delivery speed, fees, app ratings and pharmacy accreditation. Checked October 2026.
Quick answer: The best apps for prescription refills and home delivery in the USA are Amazon Pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, FuzeRx (formerly Alto Pharmacy), Capsule, Optum Rx, Express Scripts, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, GoodRx, BlinkRx and Hims and Hers. Amazon Pharmacy leads for reach, with same-day delivery in more than 3,100 US cities and towns and both URAC and NABP accreditation. Capsule offers free same-day delivery in selected cities, and Cost Plus Drugs is cheapest for cash-pay generics at cost plus a 15 percent markup. Important for 2027: Rite Aid closed all stores in October 2025, and NowRx and Medly have both shut down, so any list still recommending them is out of date.
Key takeaways
- Same-day delivery is now standard at Amazon, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Capsule, but it usually depends on living inside a delivery radius.
- Three services commonly found on older lists are dead: Rite Aid, NowRx and Medly.
- Alto Pharmacy rebranded to FuzeRx on 1 October 2026, and its app is now listed under the new name.
- Amazon, Walmart and Cost Plus Drugs have no standalone pharmacy app; you use the main shopping app or the website.
- GoodRx and SingleCare are discount cards, not pharmacies. They lower the price you pay at the counter rather than delivering your medication.
- Controlled substances are excluded from same-day delivery at Walgreens and Walmart, and Amazon accepts them only directly from your prescriber.
- Check the developer name before installing. Several pharmacy brands have lookalike or outdated listings in the app stores.
This article is general information, not medical advice. Prices, coverage and delivery areas change often. Confirm details with the pharmacy and your insurer before you switch.

App ratings are from the US App Store, checked on 13 October 2026. Where a service has no standalone app, the rating shown is for the main app you use instead.
How we checked these
We verified each service against its own website, newsroom and app store listing in October 2026, rather than relying on other published lists. That matters here more than in most categories, because this market has changed fast: several widely recommended delivery services have closed, and one of the best-known has changed its name entirely. We also checked pharmacy accreditation, since anyone shipping medication to your home should hold it, and noted where a service is a discount card rather than a pharmacy. Where a company publishes a figure we could not independently confirm, we say so instead of repeating it.
The 12 best prescription refill and delivery apps
1. Amazon Pharmacy
Type: Full-service pharmacy. App: No standalone app; use Amazon Shopping, rated 4.8 from 8.5 million ratings. Accreditation: URAC Mail Service Pharmacy and NABP Accredited Digital Pharmacy. Website: pharmacy.amazon.com
Amazon Pharmacy has the widest same-day footprint of any service here. Amazon says same-day delivery now reaches more than 3,100 US cities and towns, and it announced in February 2026 that it plans to reach nearly 4,500 by the end of the year, including statewide coverage in Idaho and Massachusetts. It ships to physical addresses in all 50 states, but not to PO boxes or Amazon Lockers. Prime members get discounts Amazon describes as up to 80 percent, and RxPass adds eligible medications for $5 a month, though that is a savings programme and not insurance. Every order is checked by a US-licensed pharmacist, pharmacists are reachable 24/7 by phone, and the service shows insurance and cash prices side by side. It also runs the PillPack multi-dose packaging service, which sorts medication by date and time.
Good to know: prescriptions for controlled substances are accepted only directly from your prescriber by electronic prescription. Amazon has also started placing pickup kiosks in One Medical clinic lobbies, starting in the Los Angeles area, though those exclude controlled and refrigerated medications.
2. CVS
Type: Full-service pharmacy. App: CVS Health, rated 4.7 from 1.7 million iOS ratings. Accreditation: URAC for mail and specialty, plus Joint Commission and ACHC for specialty. Website: cvs.com
CVS is the most practical choice if you want the option of collecting some prescriptions in person and having others delivered. The app handles refills, refill status, prescription history and barcode scanning for faster pickup, and it stores Caremark and Aetna member ID cards. Delivery is tiered: reporting of its own pricing page puts one to two day delivery at $5.49 and same-day at $9.49, with both free for ExtraCare Plus members, who pay $5 a month or $48 a year. Same-day is limited to selected locations within about 15 miles.
Good to know: CVS bought 64 Rite Aid stores and the prescription files of 625 Rite Aid pharmacies across 15 states, so if you were a Rite Aid customer your records may now sit with CVS. We could not confirm the delivery fees from a page we fetched directly, so check them in the app before you rely on them.
3. Walgreens
Type: Full-service pharmacy. App: Walgreens, rated 4.8 from 7.3 million iOS ratings. Website: walgreens.com
Walgreens has the best refill experience on this list for anyone who already has medication at home: you scan the barcode on your prescription bottle and the refill is ordered. It offers four fulfilment options, including same-day delivery from more than 8,000 stores for customers living within 20 miles, two to three business day delivery, and five to ten day ship-to-home, which is not available in Mississippi. A 24/7 pharmacist chat is free, and you can track orders for your whole family. Opting into same-day takes a text message rather than a paid membership.
Good to know: controlled substances, temperature-controlled prescriptions and prescriptions covered by certain plans may be ineligible for same-day delivery. Walgreens was taken private by Sycamore Partners in August 2025 and closures continue, though fewer than 100 are expected in 2026, well below earlier projections. Its own delivery page gives two different same-day cutoff times, so confirm your store's cutoff directly.
4. Walmart
Type: Full-service pharmacy. App: No standalone US pharmacy app; use Walmart Shopping and Savings, rated 4.8 from 19 million ratings. Website: walmart.com
Walmart made the most significant upgrade in this category recently. Since September 2025 its same-day prescription delivery covers refrigerated and reconstituted medications nationwide, including insulin and GLP-1 drugs, which most same-day services still exclude. The app handles refills, transfers, family prescription management and vaccination scheduling, with Same-Day Scheduled, On-Demand and Express options at checkout, tamper-proof packaging and real-time tracking. Delivery is free for Walmart+ members, and non-members pay based on the delivery option chosen.
Good to know: controlled substances and Medicare Part B items are excluded from same-day delivery, and one report notes North Dakota is excluded for state-law reasons. Be careful in the app stores: the app called "Walmart Pharmacy App" is Canada-only, so US customers want the main Walmart app.
5. FuzeRx, formerly Alto Pharmacy
Type: Full-service and specialty pharmacy. App: FuzeRx, rated 4.8 from 7,440 iOS ratings and 4.4 from 2,630 Play reviews. Accreditation: NABP Digital Pharmacy, listed to 24 April 2027, plus URAC Specialty. Website: hello.fuzehealth.com
If you have been looking for the Alto Pharmacy app and could not find it, this is why: Alto rebranded to FuzeRx on 1 October 2026 as part of Fuze Health, and alto.com now redirects to the new site. The app kept the same listing, so your account and history carry over. It offers same-day courier delivery and pickup from its pharmacy locations, with fertility medications shipped to all 50 states, and pharmacist support available on nights and weekends. Its specialty support covers conditions including asthma, hepatitis B and C, multiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease, which is where it is genuinely differentiated: most delivery services do not handle specialty medication well.
Good to know: it is the only service here whose NABP Digital Pharmacy accreditation we could confirm with a specific expiry date. Its published material does not state whether it handles controlled substances.
6. Capsule
Type: Full-service pharmacy. App: Capsule Pharmacy, rated 4.7 from 6,008 iOS ratings and 3.6 from 335 Play reviews. Website: capsule.com
Capsule built its reputation on free same-day delivery with a scheduled two-hour window, and it remains one of the few services where delivery costs nothing at all. It coordinates with your previous pharmacy or prescriber to move your prescriptions across, states that it accepts all commercial insurance, Managed Medicaid and Medicare Part D, and offers private chat with pharmacists in the app. Its own site lists New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Seattle, with a waitlist for other cities.
Good to know: two caveats. The gap between its iOS rating of 4.7 and its Android rating of 3.6 is the widest on this list, which suggests a weaker Android experience. We also could not find any 2026 press coverage confirming its current operations or city list, so check that it serves your address before transferring prescriptions.
7. Optum Rx
Type: Insurance mail-order pharmacy. App: OptumRx, rated 4.7 from 146,000 iOS ratings. Accreditation: NABP Digital Pharmacy, among others. Website: optum.com
Optum Rx is not a service you choose freely; you use it when your health plan uses it. For maintenance medication that you take every day, it is usually the cheapest route, because it supplies up to a 90-day supply at once and standard shipping with tracking is free on every order. Delivery takes three to five business days, and the app covers refills, auto-refill enrolment, order status, your member ID card and a Savings Center that surfaces cheaper alternatives. Pharmacists are available 24/7 by phone.
Good to know: Optum Rx is one of three pharmacy benefit managers sued by the FTC in September 2024 over insulin rebate practices, and unlike Express Scripts it has not settled. Its own pages give delivery estimates of three to five days in one place and five days in another.
8. Express Scripts
Type: Insurance mail-order pharmacy. App: Express Scripts, rated 4.7 from 428,000 iOS ratings. Accreditation: URAC PBM and Mail Service, NABP Digital Pharmacy, NABP Healthcare Merchant, NCQA and LegitScript. Website: express-scripts.com
Express Scripts holds the strongest set of accreditations of any service on this list, which is the main reason to prefer it where your plan offers a choice. Standard shipping is included in your plan, three-month supplies typically cost less than three separate one-month fills at retail, and temperature-controlled medication ships expedited at no extra cost. The app handles refills for you and family members, order tracking, automatic refills and coverage checks, and pharmacists with specialisms in diabetes, immunology, cardiovascular, pulmonary, neuroscience and women's health are available 24/7.
Good to know: it is the slowest service here, with new orders usually arriving within seven to ten days, so it suits maintenance medication rather than anything urgent. It does not accept manufacturer coupons or discount cards. The FTC announced a settlement with Express Scripts in February 2026 covering insulin pricing practices, which the FTC estimated could save patients up to $7 billion over ten years, with implementation deadlines in 2027 and 2028.
9. Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs
Type: Cash-pay mail-order pharmacy. App: None; the service is web-only. Accreditation: URAC-accredited facilities. Website: costplusdrugs.com
Cost Plus Drugs is the cheapest option here for generic medication if you are paying cash, and it is the only one that shows you its maths. Every order itemises the manufacturing cost, a 15 percent markup, a pharmacy labour fee and shipping, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and why. Its own FAQ gives the worked example: a drug costing $50 carries a $7.50 markup. It ships to all 50 states from URAC-accredited facilities. For anyone uninsured, or insured with a high deductible, this is often dramatically cheaper than a copay.
Good to know: it has no mobile app, which is why it sits here rather than higher. It is cash-pay, so it generally does not bill insurance, and Amgen and Pfizer products on the platform cannot be processed through government-funded prescription programmes. We found conflicting third-party figures for its pharmacy labour and shipping fees, so check the exact total at checkout.
10. GoodRx
Type: Discount card and price comparison, not a pharmacy. App: GoodRx, rated 4.8 from 703,000 iOS ratings and 4.8 from 336,000 Play reviews. Website: goodrx.com
GoodRx is the most downloaded app in this category, and it works differently from everything else here. It is not a pharmacy and does not dispense anything. You search for your medication, compare prices across nearby pharmacies, and present a coupon at the counter instead of using insurance, which is often cheaper for generics. The free tier covers coupons and price comparison. GoodRx Gold starts at $9.99 a month after a 30-day trial and adds deeper discounts plus free home delivery through a mail-order partner. In May 2026 the company launched GoodRx Companion at $14.99 a month, bundling prescriptions with online care visits and savings on dental, vision, labs and imaging.
Good to know: Companion is an additional subscription, not a replacement for Gold. Several websites claim Gold was discontinued, which is wrong. Home delivery comes from a partner pharmacy, so GoodRx itself is not the one shipping your medication.
11. BlinkRx
Type: Discount pricing plus its own mail delivery. App: BlinkRx, rated 4.6 from 257 iOS ratings and 4.1 from 121 Play reviews. Website: blinkhealth.com
Blink Health sits between a discount card and a delivery pharmacy, and that hybrid is its strength. You can pay online and collect at any of roughly 35,000 participating pharmacies, paying nothing at the counter, or have the medication delivered free to your home in four to six business days, with expedited shipping available for a fee. There are no membership fees, and the company claims savings of up to 80 percent. Its separate BlinkRx service works with pharmaceutical manufacturers on branded medication and will check your insurance to determine your copay and deductible.
Good to know: its app is the least maintained here. Both the iOS and Android versions were last updated in early February 2026, around eight months before we checked, and its review base is small at 257 iOS ratings and 121 on Android. Delivery is not same-day. Blink also has several older app listings still floating around the stores, including a legacy Android one that has been removed, so install the current listing named BlinkRx and check the developer is Blink Health.
12. Hims and Hers
Type: Subscription telehealth with its own pharmacies. Apps: Hims, rated 4.8 from about 97,000 iOS ratings; Hers, rated 4.6 from about 14,000. Website: hims.com
Hims and Hers solves a different problem from everything else here. The other services refill prescriptions you already have. This one starts earlier: you have an online consultation with a licensed provider, and if a prescription is appropriate, its own pharmacy ships it to you with free shipping included in the subscription. It covers sexual health, hair loss, skin, mental health and weight management, with unlimited provider messaging and periodic check-ins. If you want a prescription without booking a clinic appointment, this is the route. Our guide to the top telehealth apps compares it against the wider market.
Good to know: prescription products require an ongoing subscription that renews until you cancel, and weight-loss pricing is layered, with a membership fee separate from the medication cost. You generally cannot transfer an existing prescription into it the way you can with a normal pharmacy. Novo Nordisk sued the company in February 2026 over compounded semaglutide; the case settled in March 2026, and Hims can now sell branded Wegovy and Ozempic at self-pay prices.
Services to avoid: these have shut down
Older articles still recommend these. All three have stopped operating, and one closed only in late 2025, so the mistake is easy to make.
| Service | Status | What happened to patients |
|---|---|---|
| Rite Aid | All stores closed in the first week of October 2025, after 63 years | Prescription files sold to CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons and Kroger |
| NowRx | Wound down in late 2022 | Reported transfers to Alto in California and Capsule in Arizona |
| Medly Pharmacy | Filed for bankruptcy in December 2022, converted to liquidation in 2023 | Walgreens bought the prescription files for $19.35 million |
How fast does each one deliver?
Same-day delivery almost always depends on your address sitting inside a radius: 20 miles for Walgreens, around 15 for CVS same-day. Mail-order services have no radius but take days, which is fine for maintenance medication and not for an antibiotic you need tonight. If you need something urgently, collecting in person is still the fastest option.
How to choose the right one
- Start with your insurance. If your plan uses Optum Rx or Express Scripts for mail order, that route is usually cheapest for 90-day supplies even though it is slow.
- Paying cash? Compare before you fill. Cost Plus Drugs for generics by mail, GoodRx or SingleCare for the counter price today. The difference can be large.
- Need it today? Check whether Capsule covers your city, then Amazon, Walmart, Walgreens or CVS same-day.
- On specialty or fertility medication? FuzeRx is built for that; general delivery services often are not.
- Check controlled substances separately. Walgreens and Walmart exclude them from same-day, Amazon accepts them only from your prescriber directly, and Express Scripts states limits.
- Look for accreditation. URAC or NABP Digital Pharmacy accreditation is a meaningful signal that a mail-order pharmacy is legitimate.
- Do not stop filling at your current pharmacy until the new service confirms it has your prescription.
Building a pharmacy delivery app
If you are looking at this category as a founder rather than a patient, the lesson of the past three years is sobering. NowRx and Medly both raised substantial funding, built real pharmacies and courier networks, and both failed, while Amazon and Walmart expanded same-day delivery nationally. Delivery alone is not a defensible product. What the surviving independents have is something harder to copy: FuzeRx has specialty and fertility expertise, Cost Plus Drugs has radical pricing transparency, and Capsule has a genuinely better refill experience.
The engineering is also only part of the work. A prescription platform needs pharmacy licensing in every state it serves, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure, e-prescribing integration, insurance claim adjudication, and accreditation if you want to be taken seriously. Our guide to building an AI telehealth app covers the clinical workflow side, and our breakdown of healthcare workflow optimisation looks at where automation genuinely pays off. Conclusion
For most people, Amazon Pharmacy is the strongest all-round choice in 2027: the widest same-day coverage, real accreditation, and meaningful discounts if you already have Prime. If you live in one of its cities, Capsule's free same-day delivery is hard to beat. If you are paying cash, start with Cost Plus Drugs for generics and GoodRx for anything you are collecting in person. If your plan runs mail order through Optum Rx or Express Scripts, use it for 90-day supplies and keep a local pharmacy for urgent prescriptions. And if you are still looking for Alto Pharmacy, it is now called FuzeRx.

Frequently Asked Questions
#What is the best app for prescription refills and home delivery?
Amazon Pharmacy is the strongest all-round choice, with same-day delivery in more than 3,100 US cities and towns, URAC and NABP accreditation, and Prime member discounts. Capsule is better if you live in one of its cities and want genuinely free same-day delivery, and Cost Plus Drugs is cheapest for cash-pay generics, though it has no mobile app.
#Which prescription delivery services offer same-day delivery?
Amazon Pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Capsule and FuzeRx all offer same-day delivery. Availability depends on your address: Walgreens serves customers within 20 miles of more than 8,000 stores, and CVS same-day covers selected locations within about 15 miles. Walmart offers same-day nationwide, including refrigerated medication such as insulin and GLP-1 drugs.
#Is the Rite Aid app still working?
No. Rite Aid closed all of its remaining stores in the first week of October 2025, ending 63 years in business, after filing for bankruptcy a second time in May 2025. Its prescription files were sold to CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons and Kroger. If you were a Rite Aid customer, your prescription records are most likely with one of those pharmacies now.
#What happened to Alto Pharmacy?
Alto Pharmacy rebranded to FuzeRx on 1 October 2026 and now operates as part of Fuze Health, which was formed from the Truepill and LetsGetChecked merger. The alto.com website permanently redirects to the new Fuze Health site, and the app is listed as FuzeRx in both app stores, keeping the same listing so accounts carry over.
#Is prescription home delivery free?
It depends. Capsule delivers free, Optum Rx and Express Scripts include standard shipping in your plan, and Walmart delivers free for Walmart+ members. CVS charges around $5.49 for one to two day and $9.49 for same-day unless you pay $5 a month for ExtraCare Plus. Walgreens delivery fees vary by location, and BlinkRx offers free home delivery in four to six business days.
#Can you get controlled substances delivered to your home?
Usually with restrictions. Walgreens and Walmart both exclude controlled substances from same-day delivery, Amazon Pharmacy accepts prescriptions for them only directly from your prescriber by electronic prescription, and Express Scripts states there are limits on delivering controlled substances such as opioids. Check with the specific pharmacy, since rules also vary by state.
#What is the difference between GoodRx and a delivery pharmacy?
GoodRx is a discount card and price comparison service, not a pharmacy. It does not dispense or ship medication. You use it to find a lower cash price and present a coupon at the pharmacy counter instead of using insurance. Home delivery is available only on the paid Gold tier through a mail-order partner. Amazon Pharmacy, Capsule and FuzeRx are actual pharmacies that fill and ship your prescription.
#Which prescription app is cheapest for people without insurance?
Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs is usually cheapest for generic medication by mail, because it charges the manufacturing cost plus a 15 percent markup, a pharmacy labour fee and shipping, and shows that breakdown at checkout. For medication you collect in person, compare GoodRx and SingleCare coupons, which are free to use at more than 35,000 pharmacies.
#Are online pharmacy apps safe to use?
The established ones are, but check for accreditation before trusting any service with your medication. Look for URAC Mail Service Pharmacy accreditation or NABP Digital Pharmacy accreditation. Amazon Pharmacy holds both, Express Scripts holds URAC, NABP and LegitScript certification, and FuzeRx holds NABP Digital Pharmacy accreditation. Avoid any site shipping prescription medication without a valid prescription.
#Do Amazon and Walmart have separate pharmacy apps?
No. Neither has a standalone pharmacy app in the United States. Amazon Pharmacy is accessed through the main Amazon Shopping app or its website, and Walmart pharmacy features sit inside the main Walmart Shopping and Savings app. An app called Walmart Pharmacy App does exist, but it serves Canada only, so US customers should not install it.
