Online gaming is one of the world’s favourite ways to keep themselves entertained. Whether you enjoy a traditional video game, or you prefer playing Megaways Slots, there’s a game out there for everyone to enjoy.

But what are the elements that make up a good gaming app? What are people looking out for when they’re choosing something to play? We’ve got all of the main features that make a gaming app stand out from all the rest.

What features do you need for a good gaming app?

  • Design

When we’re playing a game, the design is everything. It’s what draws you into a game when you are looking for something to play. And it’s not just the design of the graphics and logo.

You need to make sure that the design of the gameplay itself is up to scratch. If a game is boring from the offset, players are going to stop playing. You need interesting characters – maybe multiple that people can choose from.

Everything in the game has to be wonderfully designed so attention to detail is an absolute must. You don’t want anything to catch you out or anything to disappoint your players.

  • Gameplay

Of course, the game doesn’t just have to be designed well, the gameplay itself has to be well thought out too. You need good characters, a good quest or issue for them to solve. There needs to be something that the player doesn’t expect – surprises are always a fun addition to gameplay.

It’s not just about the storyline either, you need to give the player some control over the game. They need to be able to customise the game to make it more suitable to them. This can be done through the controls or through the design of the characters.

  • Graphics

When we’re playing a game, the graphics have to be top tier. There’s nothing worse than pixelated graphics or robotic movements from characters. Technology has advanced so far now that there’s no excuse for the graphics not to be up to scratch.

Even if people game on their phones, the screens are able to display top tier graphics – so that’s what people are expecting. Gamers can be a demanding bunch so the graphics are the one place you don’t want to scrounge on.

  • Sound effects

This might not be top of everyone’s list but sound effects can have a massive impact on user experience. If you’re playing a game for a prolonged period of time and the sound effects are annoying or too repetitive, the player is not going to play the game again.

The quality of the sound is important too. Lots of gamers use top of the range speakers or headphones when they’re gaming so you don’t want anything that’s going to sound canned or tinny.

A good soundtrack can make or break a game – just look at how successful the GTA radio stations were and still are today.

  • Simplicity

There is nothing worse than a game that is overly complicated. Obviously, the game should be interesting enough to keep the player involved. But you don’t want lots of rules and random characters that make anything too confusing.

The player should always know what’s going on in the game, or at least be able to work it out easily. It’s a delicate balance of making sure the game is interesting enough to be enjoyed, whilst not being too overly complicated.

If you can manage to get that balance right, you’ve got a good chance of building a successful game.

  • Payment options

It might seem like a small thing, but having the right payment options can make a difference to your players gaming experience. If payment is too complicated or there are a limited amount of options, it could easily turn players away.

You need to ensure that most forms of payment are available. A lot of online gamers are a fan of using cryptocurrencies so having those available is imperative. This is where knowing your audience comes in handy. If you know what kind of payment options they are likely to use, you know what you need to offer them.

  • Customer support

Unfortunately, no matter how much you plan anything in life, something always goes wrong somewhere. It is inevitable that a player can’t access a game or is struggling with one element of it.

They need to know that there is someone there who can support them and help them resolve the issue. A lot of the time, the issue will be down to the user, but they still need to be able to access the assistance they need.

Having an online chat is a great way to support your players. Not everyone likes speaking on the phone so being able to have a live chat is preferable.

Now you’ve seen our list, what do you think the most important feature of a game is?
