The Sennheiser Momentum 3 and Momentum 2 are both high-end over-ear headphones from the German audio company Sennheiser. The main differences between the two models are:

  • Momentum 3 features active noise cancellation, whereas Momentum 2 does not.
  • The Momentum 3 has a slightly updated design, with a more premium look and feel.
  • The Momentum 3 has a slightly longer battery life of 17 hours compared to the Momentum 2’s 22 hours.
  • The Momentum 3 has a slightly updated version of the Sennheiser Smart Control app that allows you to customize your listening experience and access additional features.
  • The Momentum 3 is slightly more expensive than the Momentum 2.

Quick Guide MOMENTUM True Wireless 2

Quick Guide MOMENTUM True Wireless 3

The designs comparison of Sennheiser momentum true wireless 2 vs 3

The very first difference that users can notice with Sennheiser momentum 3 is the design.

The earbuds come in the same case as the momentum 2, which has a leather design. The only difference here is that the momentum 2 case comes with a charging port in the back of the case, while in the case of momentum 3.0 it is at the very front of the case. The leather of the case is just as smooth as it was with the previous case. But, momentum 3 does feature wireless charging vs its previous generation.

Now let’s move inside the case and talk about the earbuds. A slight change has happened with the design of momentum 3 as it is a little smaller and in a round shape than momentum 2. So, for the ones who struggled with the fit of momentum 2, momentum 3 is going to fit them perfectly.

However despite all the changes, there’s no change in the button layouts and function, the buttons are still customizable ( the guide will discuss in later) and lay in the same pattern as the momentum3.

Bluetooth Connectivity & Audio Codec of momentum 2 vs 3

Here also momentum 3 has got some comparison to its previous generation. Momentum 2 uses Bluetooth 5.1 compared to momentum 3 which uses Bluetooth 5.2 to offer better connectivity.

And when it comes to the audio codec the user has SBC and AAC in momentum 2, which are also present in TW3 but with the addition of apt X Adaptive audio codec along with the support for digital streams up to 96kHz/24-bit. The apt X Adaptive codec performs incredibly versatile and can adjust the value based on the content. It can vary its bit rate on the fly and automatically step down for movies and for gaming use it provides ultra-low-latency sound.

Sennheiser Has Better Noise Cancellation than Apple & Sony

Along with the high-quality audio circuitry, the Sennheiser Momentum TW3 also features hybrid ANC to offer the customers adaptive notice cancellation. And the TW3 is incredibly effective in offering noise cancellation compared to its counterpart TW2.

The hybrid ANC system of TW3 uses two microphones in each earpiece for detecting and eliminating the external sounds to be canceled. Also, one internal microphone in each earpiece is present to manage the sound reaching the listener’s ear. And if the earbuds direct too much sound, the circuitry adjusts to tame the sound according to the ears further in a feedback loop. This feed-forward, as well as feed-backward ANC feature, can even silence things like road noise, aircraft engines, or other continuous sounds. In the battle of TW2 vs TW3, due to the ANC features of TW3, it wins the noise cancellation battle.

Independent Use

Both TW2 and TW3 have independent use features, as the user can use the left or right earbuds when the other remains inside the earbud case.

Touch Controls

As the TW2 and users also get the access to Sennheiser app, access all the touch controls as well as change them. Touch control has become a commonly added feature in the Sennheiser devices. To access the control in momentum 3, users can install Sennheiser’s app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Through the Sennheiser app, Users can customize and control every feature like voice assistant and EQ features. Users also gain control to control the noise-canceling function based and the degree to of the voice needs to be canceled. All of these features are also present with momentum 2 so there is nothing much changed in the touch control. However, with momentum 3 users can also collaborate with their Alexa, Siri as well as Google assistant.

Price Comparision

Even with all of the new features, the Sennheiser Momentum TW3 has a starting price of $249, which is $50 less than the Momentum True Wireless 2. Although the older model is now $199, paying $50 more for better noise cancellation, more codec support, and fast charging seems worthwhile. Sennheiser will include four sizes of silicone earbuds and 3 pairs of ear fins with the new generation earbuds. Users will also receive a USB-C cable in the box. There is no power adapter included, but any 5W charger will suffice.

TW2 vs TW3 Battery Life Comparision

When it comes to the battle of Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 vs Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, Sennheiser has managed to increase the battery life of the earbuds to seven hours of battery life. With Adaptive ANC enabled, battery life is reduced by approximately 30 minutes.

Sennheiser and Qualcomm have worked their magic to reduce energy consumption to such acceptable levels. The case stores an additional 21 hours of backup power, bringing the number of playtime to a very respectable 28 hours. Charging is accomplished via the charging case’s USB-C port or by simply placing the case on any Qi-compatible wireless battery charger mat. So, the battery life battle also tilts towards the TW3.

Bass Boost Option

The momentum TW3 provides a good bass boost option in the case of optimal volume, whereas the TW2 lacks the good base boost volume to provide the optimal listing experience.

The users can adjust and combine the base boost volume with the EQ to experience the optimal listing experience. So, the user can get some top-level quality level with momentum 3.

Sidetone Feature

The sidetone feature is something that lets users hear their voices while being on the call. The TW2 does not provide the users with this feature, on the other hand, the TW3 does let the users use this feature.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 VS 2 | Worth The Upgrade?

Various small differences add up to make a big difference. And this is true in the case of the Sennheiser Momentum 3 vs Momentum 2 comparison. The Sennheiser Momentum 3 provides the perfect fit, excellent sound quality, premium noise cancellation, wireless charging, better voice quality especially the base, and a lower price. These are the things that drive users into purchasing the Momentum 3. So, for the users who haven’t thought of tw3, it is worth the upgrade.

Sennheiser is an audio company whose products range from headphones, microphones, amplifiers, and speakers. They have always provided the users with top-notch audio devices just like Tw2 and Tw3. So, no matter which device wins the race, the users will always have the best.
